Gareth studied in Edinburgh and Copenhagen and gained four years of professional experience at Allan Murray Architects in Edinburgh and Terry Pawson Architects in London prior to joining Panter Hudspith as an architect in 2002. He has been an Associate with the practice since 2007.

Gareth’s first role with the practice was Project Architect at Oxford Castle, winning awards from MIPIM, Civic Trust, RIBA & RICS. He then acted as Project Architect on a number of mixed-use schemes up to planning in Southwark and a riverside scheme in Salford comprising 750 apartments, commercial and retail.

Between 2008 and 2012 Gareth was responsible for a number of buildings on prime sites within the Athletes’ Village development in Stratford for the London Olympics, leading the team from conception to completion. In 2013 he led a competition-winning scheme the heart of Oxford for Westgate, a mixed-use retail and leisure development, which completed on site in 2017.

In 2014, Gareth led a number of short-listed and winning competitions including developments in Lambeth, Dulwich, Cambridge and at West Grove Park in Elephant and Castle. He then acted as Project Associate for a competition-winning residential development on the Thames riverfront overlooking Canary Wharf and a major hotel and retail development in Oxfordshire, achieving planning consent in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Since 2015, Gareth has led the practice’s largest scheme to date - Clarendon Gas Works, in Wood Green, north London. This masterplan project achieved planning consent in 2018 and comprises 24 buildings between 2 and 19 stories with over 1700 homes, 7500m2 of creative employment space plus restaurants, retail units, a nursery, a gym and two energy centres.

In 2017 Gareth also began leading the team on a mixed-use development in the heart of the transformational Hackney Wick masterplan, opposite the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The project comprises 4 residential-led buildings with canal-side restaurants and a stand-alone office development providing over 5000m2 of creative workspace.
