Delivering a boutique cinema within a retail shell
Ashford Picturehouse was developed by Stanhope as part of the Elwick Place development ; which comprises a five-screen 900 Seat cinema and A3 restaurant units fronting a new public square. As fit-out architects for the cinema operator Picturehouse cinemas, Panter Hudspith were responsible for the design and execution of the cinema interior, as well as having an executive role in the design and construction of the cinema shell, which was delivered by Guy Holloway architects.

Bringing a sense of drama to the interior
A ground floor entrance with feature staircase brings the public up to a foyer bar and cinema screens at first floor level, with extensive glazing offering views out over Ashford. The undersides of the cantilevered cinema screens are exploited to provide a sculptural backdrop to the foyer bar, and to accommodate back of house spaces. Vibrant finishes including velvet curtains, warm brass light fittings, neon signage and colourful furniture animate the public spaces of the cinema.
